Vincent Kompany warns Manchester City over complacency

Vincent Kompany warns his Manchester City teammates to remain grounded as the Sky Blues close in on the Premier League title.

Vincent Kompany has warned his Manchester City teammates to remain grounded as the Sky Blues close in on the Premier League title.

City usurped Liverpool at the top of the table on goal difference by ending a four-year hoodoo at Goodison Park to beat Everton 3-2 on Saturday.

With two home fixtures against Aston Villa and West Ham United remaining, Manuel Pellegrini's side are now heavy favourites to pip the Reds to the crown.

Having been held to a 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium by lowly Sunderland last month, though, the skipper stressed the importance of remaining focused as the title race reaches its conclusion.

"Ultimately it's two games at home but it doesn't mean anything," he told Sky Sports News. "You saw the Sunderland game and how tough it was.

"Hopefully we'll just play like we can, we have a strong home record and we have goals from everywhere on the pitch."

Brendan Rodgers's side can move back to the summit by beating Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in their penultimate game of the season on Monday night.
