Manchester City are reportedly set to announce the appointment of Juanma Lillo as Pep Guardiola's new assistant coach.

Manchester City are reportedly set to announce the appointment of Juanma Lillo as Pep Guardiola's new assistant coach.

The number two role has been vacant at the Etihad Stadium since Mikel Arteta left the club in January to become the new head coach at Arsenal.

Lillo has recently left his role as manager of Chinese Super League side Qingdao Huanghai and The Mail reports that the 54-year-old is to join up with Guardiola in Manchester.

After starting his coaching career at the age of just 16, the Spaniard has worked for 35 years, including spells as an assistant to Jorge Sampaoli with Sevilla as well as with the Chilean national team.

Lillo has previously worked with Guardiola at Mexican side Dorados Sinaloa when he signed the current City boss as a player in 2005.

The former Real Sociedad manager has also worked in Colombia and Japan as a head coach but had limited success in a number of first-team coaching roles.
