Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill concedes that his team were well beaten by Manchester City.

Martin O'Neill has admitted that his Sunderland side deserved to be beaten by Manchester City this afternoon.

The Black Cats were 1-0 down at the break against the Premier League champions, who added two further goals to their total after the restart to secure the points.

"Eventually over the piece Man City deserved to win. When it was 1-0 we had a chance and just after the break we had an attacking threat, but overall they were much better and deserved to win the game," O'Neill told BBC Sport.

"They were electric. They are fine players, champions of this country and playing big Champions League games. It was always the possibility if they got the second goal, they would cause havoc and that happened."

The defeat has left O'Neill's team 13th in the Premier League table.
