Manuel Pellegrini slams Belgium boss Marc Wilmots over Vincent Kompany inclusion

Manuel Pellegrini fumes at Belgium boss Marc Wilmots for fielding his Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany in a Euro 2016 qualifier.

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has slammed Belgium counterpart Marc Wilmots for playing the unfit Vincent Kompany in a recent Euro 2016 qualifier.

The Sky Blues captain started and clocked 57 minutes of Tuesday's 3-1 win over Israel, despite missing City's last five games after picking up a calf injury in the Champions League defeat to Juventus.

As a result of his international duty, Pellegrini says that his skipper will not be available for Saturday's visit of Bournemouth, but stressed that it is due to a lack of fitness.

"I was not pleased because we sent Vincent with a medical report saying he cannot play but, as the Belgium manager said, he can do what he wants," he told a press conference.

"It's no problem with Vincent. It was just important for him to work a whole week before playing a game – he couldn't do it because he played with Belgium so we'll have to see when he can return to his position for us."

The Citizens, who lead the way in England's top flight, have lost two of the three Premier League games which Kompany has missed.
