Manchester City and Pep Guardiola are reportedly in talks to extend the 49-year-old's contract at the Etihad beyond the end of the 2020-21 season.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is reportedly in talks to extend his deal at the Etihad Stadium beyond the end of next season.

The former Barcelona manager will see his current contract with the Citizens expire in 10 months' time, and Guardiola's future with City has been called into question after their Champions League quarter-final defeat to Lyon.

Guardiola is yet to go all the way in Europe's elite competition with the four-time Premier League champions, and a recent report suggested that City were eyeing up Mauricio Pochettino as a potential successor to the Spaniard.

However, according to The Telegraph, the City hierarchy are standing by Guardiola and believe that he will continue to bring more success to the Etihad Stadium despite their Champions League woes.

As a result, the two parties are believed to be in discussions to keep Guardiola in the dugout at Man City beyond 2021, and the 49-year-old is intent on staying on and helping the Citizens finally achieve European glory.

Since taking over at the Etihad in 2016, Guardiola has triumphed in 168 of his 233 games in charge and has won two Premier League titles, one FA Cup and three EFL Cups in Manchester.
