Tony Fernandes: 'Queens Park Rangers not keen on Joleon Lescott'

QPR chairman Tony Fernandes dismisses rumours that the club is keen on signing Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott this summer.

Queens Park Rangers chairman Tony Fernandes has played down rumours that the club is interested in signing Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott.

The centre-back, who is out of contract next month, has been linked with a move to Loftus Road as the R's prepare for their return to the Premier League next season.

However, Fernandes has suggested that Lescott is not the type of player who he is looking to bring to the club this summer.

"We have a different philosophy from this time two years ago. We know what we want, we have a list of targets that we think are the right sort and will add tremendous value to the club," he told Sky Sports News.

"You need a balance of youth and experience but you need to get the right experience - people who are ready to come down and battle. People who have come from places like Manchester City, having won titles and been in the Champions League, might not have the right energy you want."

QPR sealed their promotion to the Premier League last weekend with a 1-0 win over Derby County in the Championship playoff final.
