A Manchester City midfielder is reportedly weighing up whether to leave the club in January amid speculation linking him with a move to Saudi Arabia.

Manchester City midfielder Mateo Kovacic is reportedly open to a January exit amid links over a potential move to Saudi Arabia.

Man City sanctioned a number of departures during the recent summer transfer window, including Julian Alvarez's £82m move to Atletico Madrid.

The Citizens also offloaded Joao Cancelo, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Sergio Gomez and Tommy Doyle, while Yan Couto, Kalvin Phillips, Issa Kabore and Maximo Perrone all headed out on loan.

With the transfer window closed, Man City do not have to concern themselves with any more departures until the market reopens in January.

But while that may be the case, one player is already weighing up whether to leave the Etihad Stadium in the new year.

Kovacic considering Man City future

According to Football Insider, Kovacic is considering his future at Man City following the recent arrival of Ilkay Gundogan.

Last month, the Germany international returned to the club on a free transfer after spending a season with Catalan giants Barcelona.

Kovacic is seemingly concerned that Gundogan's return could harm his playing chances despite being a regular feature in Pep Guardiola's side in the opening stages of the season.

The Croatia international has started all four of Man City's competitive matches this season largely due to the absence of Rodri.

However, the report suggests that Guardiola is unlikely to sanction Kovacic's departure in the January transfer window.

Kovacic attracting Saudi Arabian interest

Kovacic could be presented with an enticing package to join the Saudi Pro League after it was reported that he is on Al-Nassr's radar.

The Saudi Arabian side are considering a January approach after aborting their plans to sign him on the final day of the transfer window.

Al-Nassr are reportedly willing to offer the 30-year-old around $65m (£49.3m) to reunite with his former Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.

The midfielder is currently focused on his international obligations with Croatia before he links up with his Man City teammates ahead of a home clash against Brentford on Saturday.
