Marcello Lippi "surprised" by Manchester United's "non-play"

Former Juventus boss Marcello Lippi admits that he was "surprised by the non-play of Manchester United" during Tuesday's Champions League clash at Old Trafford.

Former Juventus boss Marcello Lippi has admitted that he was "surprised by the non-play of Manchester United" during Tuesday's Champions League clash between the Red Devils and the Italian champions.

Paulo Dybala scored the only goal of the match as Juventus recorded a 1-0 win at Old Trafford earlier this week.

Lippi has paid tribute to "spectacular Juve", but the vastly experienced head coach has conceded that he was stunned by the inability of Jose Mourinho's side to challenge the Old Lady.

"I saw a spectacular Juve at Old Trafford, I really liked them. I enjoyed the way they dominated in one of the most difficult and glorious stadiums in the world. In the most complicated game, they showed the personality that confirmed their growth," Lippi told Corriere dello Sport.

"On the other hand, I was surprised by the non-play of Manchester United. United can't stand and watch another team for an hour, even if it's a super Juve.

"Jose Mourinho? I agree with his comments that Bonucci and Chiellini could teach defence at Harvard. But I repeat, a team with that technical quality remained closed, as they'd already done for a long time against Chelsea."

United are currently second in Group H after three matches, five points off the Italian champions.
