Man United's Louis van Gaal: 'Winning FA Cup would make this season a success'

Louis van Gaal says that this season will be a success if United win the FA Cup and finish fifth, but insists that Champions League qualification is "more important".

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has claimed that winning the FA Cup would make this season successful, but qualifying for the Champions League is "more important".

The Red Devils will take on Everton in the semi-finals of the cup at Wembley later today.

Should United get past the Merseyside outfit, they will take on either Crystal Palace or Watford in the final showdown next month.

In the Premier League, United are in danger of missing out on qualifying for next season's Champions League as they are fifth in the table, two points behind fourth-placed City with four games left to play.

According to the London Evening Standard, when asked if this would be a successful season if United won the FA Cup, but finished fifth, Van Gaal said: "I think it is always a success when you win a title.

"But for the club it is more important to qualify for the Champions League because we have to show ourselves at the highest level. That is also our aim."

This season, United failed to progress past the group stage in the Champions League.
