Half-Time Report: Burnley, Manchester United fail to break deadlock

Burnley and Manchester United head into the break level after both sides missed a string of chances at Turf Moor.

Burnley and Manchester United have both had a number of chances to break the deadlock at Turf Moor, but the sides have headed into half time level at 0-0 this afternoon.

Burnley came close to opening the scoring just three minutes into the tie when David Jones struck a free kick onto the crossbar.

There was another chance for the hosts just moments later when a Jonny Evans backpass intended for David de Gea lacked enough power, almost letting Lukas Jutkiewicz in on goal.

The visitors survived Burnley's bright start before applying pressure down the other end, with Angel di Maria setting up Robin van Persie for a shot, before the club's new signing pulled the ball back for Juan Mata a few minutes later, but the Spaniard could not get his shot away.

Louis van Gaal's side continued to dominate the possession, but Jones had another opportunity to open the scoring when he stole the ball away from Di Maria before firing straight at De Gea.

Scott Arfield also got the better of the United defence shortly before the break when he rounded Tyler Blackett before seeing his shot deflected behind.

United had a corner in stoppage time, but Tom Heaton collected the ball to ensure that the visitors did not take the lead late on.
