France manager Didier Deschamps has defended Paul Pogba, hailing the Manchester United midfielder's campaign so far as "very, very good".

Pogba, who has suffered from injury and illness this season, was allegedly involved in a rift with United boss Jose Mourinho last week.

The France international was substituted in his side's defeat to Newcastle United, before backing out of the club's FA Cup win over Huddersfield Town because of illness.

Deschamps has said that he has been monitoring Pogba's progress, adding that the 24-year-old is "not in difficulty".

"I have been watching what he is doing – he is not in difficulty," the coach told French TV station SFR.

"He had a little injury and he was ill. For now, he is having a very, very good season with Manchester United."

Pogba could return to the United team for their Champions League clash with Sevilla after training ahead of Wednesday's first leg in Spain.
