Rio Ferdinand defends Manchester United squad strength

Rio Ferdinand insists that the current Manchester United squad is strong enough to challenge on all fronts this season.

Rio Ferdinand has insisted that the current Manchester United squad is strong enough to win a number of trophies this season.

The Red Devils came under fire for their lack of business on transfer deadline day, with Marouane Fellaini from Everton the only arrival at Old Trafford.

However, Ferdinand is confident that there is enough quality at the club to see the team challenge on all fronts.

"We've got a strong enough squad to win everything," the 34-year-old told the Evening Standard. "We won the League at a canter last season and we've not become a bad team overnight. We believe strongly in what we've got. And anyway, you can't judge the league after three games. We'll have to wait and see where we end up."

United continue the defence of their Premier League title on September 14 when they play host to Crystal Palace.
