Sir Alex Ferguson has congratulated Manchester City after their last-gasp 3-2 win over QPR won them the title.
Manchester United beat Sunderland 1-0 to come within minutes of clinching the title before Sergio Aguero's last-minute winner.
The Scottish manager has claimed the experience will help his younger players as he builds a new side at Old Trafford. However, he did congratulate City on their Premier League win.
"It was a cruel way [to lose it], but we've experienced many ups and downs," Ferguson told Sky Sports News
"We nearly did it and I'd like to say, on behalf of Manchester United, congratulations to Manchester City.
"We take credit in the fact that we've had many injuries throughout the season.
"The experience is good for my players, even if it's a bad one."
United end the season on 89 points in second place, a record for a team that has not won the title.
