Ahead of this afternoon's clash between Spurs and Man United, Sir Alex Ferguson expresses his belief that it is "inevitable" that Harry Redknapp will become the next England manager.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has said that he believes it is "inevitable" Harry Redknapp will become the next England manager.

The Tottenham Hotspur boss is heavy favourite to take up the role, which is currently being overseen by Stuart Pearce.

Ferguson, 70, whose side take on Redknapp's Spurs in a crucial game this afternoon, also thinks the FA could face a public backlash if Redknapp is not given the job.

"I think it's inevitable, Harry and England," said the Glaswegian veteran.

"I really do. I know the FA are supposed to be drawing up a list, but I don't see anybody else who is being talked about getting it.

"If they went for someone else they would have the public against them and they would be panicking. The drive and energy is all about Harry."

A win this afternoon would see United all but end Spurs' chance of a Premier League crown as they would move 11 points clear in second place.
