Jose Mourinho 'confident of landing Manchester United job'

Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly confident that he will become the next manager of Manchester United when Louis van Gaal leaves the club.

Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is confident that he will take over as Manchester United manager by the start of next season, according to reports.

Speculation has linked Mourinho to the Old Trafford post ever since he was sacked by Chelsea in December, with Louis van Gaal failing to impress at United.

The Red Devils, who currently sit fifth in the Premier League table, five points adrift of the Champions League places, have also been put under further pressure by Manchester City's appointment of Pep Guardiola from the start of next season.

Reports had suggested that Mourinho may have already signed an agreement to become the next manager of United, despite all parties remaining tight-lipped on speculation.

However, The Independent now reports that Mourinho is "confident" of taking the reins at Old Trafford, most likely in the summer, when it is expected that Van Gaal will leave.

Chelsea and United play each other at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Sunday.
