Manchester United goalkeeping legend Peter Schmeichel has claimed that he is disappointed by the criticism that has been levelled at current shotstopper David De Gea.
The Spaniard has been targeted by fans and media alike this season after a number of high-profile errors.
However, Schmeichel has been impressed by the improvement made by the 21-year-old.
"I'm disappointed on behalf of De Gea and the criticism he has had because I thought in this country you give everybody a chance," said the Dane. "But he's come through that challenge really well and I like what I see there now in his game.
"It speaks volumes for De Gea's character that he has come through it with some cracking saves against Norwich."
The 48-year-old, who won 15 honours at Old Trafford, also had praise for Manchester City keeper Joe Hart.
"Joe Hart has bags and bags of talent," he added. "One of the reasons City are number one in the country at the moment is because of Joe."
Schmeichel finally hung up his gloves in 2003 after a brief spell with City.
