Peter Schmeichel: 'Louis Van Gaal will aim high'

Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel says Louis van Gaal will want to win the Premier League in his first season with the Reds.

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has said that Louis Van Gaal will aim to win the Premier League title in his first season with the club.

Van Gaal is expected to be appointed as United manager next week, and Schmeichel believes he will aim high after the Reds finished seventh last term.

"The club needs a strong man to steer us back up," Schmeichel told The Express.

"We have finished seventh, so the top four is a good target to set yourself for next season.

"But Van Gaal will not want to accept the top four - he will try and win."

Van Gaal oversaw Netherlands's 1-1 international friendly draw against Ecuador on Saturday.
