Manchester United 'would have to pay £10m compensation for Mauricio Pochettino'

Manchester United would have to pay Tottenham Hotspur £10m in compensation should they appoint Mauricio Pochettino before the end of the season, according to a report.

Manchester United would reportedly have to pay Tottenham Hotspur £10m in compensation should they appoint Mauricio Pochettino as head coach before the end of the 2019-20 campaign.

Pochettino has allegedly been in talks with the 20-time English champions over the possibility of replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has overseen United's worst start to a league season for 30 years.

Solskjaer's spot is believed to be safe for the moment, but the Red Devils have lost their last two Premier League matches to Liverpool and Burnley during a tough spell.

According to The Mirror, Tottenham would be entitled to up to £10m in compensation should their former manager, who left in November, take another job before the end of the season.

The report claims that the 47-year-old has 'strong support in the United boardroom' amid suggestions that Solskjaer will be sacked if the club do not return to the Champions League next term.

Pochettino, who has also managed Espanyol and Southampton, helped establish Spurs as a top-four club during his time at the helm, while he also led them to the 2019 Champions League final.
