Edwin van der Sar: 'Robin van Persie joined Manchester United to win trophies'

Edwin van der Sar says that Robin van Persie left Arsenal for Manchester United last summer to win trophies.

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has hailed Robin van Persie for quickly adapting to life under Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.

The 42-year-old adds that his Dutch compatriot left Arsenal to join the Red Devils last summer to "win trophies".

"It's not easy," he told FATV. "It's a big change for him, going from Arsenal - a big-money move [and] a lot of controversy leaving Arsenal behind.

"He moved for a certain reason, and that was to be involved in title races and trying to win trophies.

"The destination he chose - to go to Man United - they're always in the hunt for more. Their players have won loads of things already but they're still hungry for another title. Let's hope they can add something to the silverware this season."

Van Persie has scored 17 goals in 22 Premier League appearances for United.
