Louis van Gaal reserves praise for Memphis Depay, Jesse Lingard

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal reserves praise for attacking pair Memphis Depay and Jesse Lingard following the 2-1 win over Watford.

Louis van Gaal has singled out Memphis Depay and Jesse Lingard for praise following Manchester United's 2-1 victory over Watford at Vicarage Road.

A late own goal from Troy Deeney proved to be the difference between the two sides after the Watford captain had cancelled out the opening goal from Memphis.

The Netherlands international was supported by Lingard in attack as United were without both Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial, and Van Gaal was delighted with the contributions from the duo.

"The first half he was superb, like Jesse Lingard," Van Gaal told BT Sport when asked about Memphis.

"I think also this role is the best role for him; he played it also in the [World Cup] for me when Robin van Persie or Arjen Robben was injured, so I knew that he could do this.

"But also Jesse was fantastic - because of those two we created a lot of chances."

United now switch their focus to Wednesday's Champions League clash with PSV Eindhoven.
