Ander Herrera, Phil Jones unavailable for PSV Eindhoven game

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal reveals that Ander Herrera and Phil Jones will not be fit for the club's midweek Champions League game against PSV Eindhoven.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has admitted that Ander Herrera and Phil Jones will not be available for their midweek fixture against PSV Eindhoven, after both came off in their 2-1 win against Watford.

Herrera was substituted after just 25 minutes with a hamstring problem, while Jones was replaced late on after twisting his ankle.

Van Gaal believes that his side are going through a "lousy period" but is hopeful that he will have Wayne Rooney fit for the Champions League fixture against the Dutch champions.

The Dutchman told reporters: "We are in a lousy period because there are a lot of injuries, Jones and Herrera are not available for Wednesday. The first impression is they are not heavy injuries but we have to play Wednesday.

"Jones has a twisted ankle and Herrera maybe a hamstring injury. Rooney is ill and illness is a matter of days, not weeks.

"I do expect that he shall play Wednesday. He is at home. Tomorrow he comes and then I can say more."

The Red Devils host PSV Eindhoven at Old Trafford on Wednesday as they look to move one step closer to the knockout rounds of the Champions League.
