Louis van Gaal slams Roy Hodgson over Luke Shaw comments

Louis van Gaal says that England manager Roy Hodgson was wrong to criticise the fitness of Luke Shaw.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has slammed Roy Hodgson for questioning Luke Shaw's fitness.

The England manager revealed that he had concerns over Shaw's fitness during the World Cup, but Van Gaal has since claimed that the defender is now "training fantastically" and is an "example" to his teammates.

"Roy Hodgson cannot judge at this moment," BBC Sport quotes Van Gaal as saying. "I have never seen him here at a United training session.

"I think Roy is referring to the World Cup. It is possible, I don't know. That is what I want to ask. But now Shaw is doing a great job.

"In the United States I said to Luke, 'you came here and you were not fit'. I changed his programme and he did everything that he had to do to be fit. Now he is an example in the dressing room. He is training fantastically."

Shaw joined United from Southampton for a fee of £27m earlier this summer.
