Diego Lugano: 'Luis Suarez is innocent'

PSG defender Diego Lugano backs Liverpool's Luis Suarez following his conduct in recent weeks.

Paris Saint-Germain defender Diego Lugano has claimed that Liverpool's Luis Suarez "is the only innocent party" in the racism row with Patrice Evra.

Suarez was found guilty of racially abusing Evra earlier in the season, and refused to shake the French defender's hand during their meeting on Saturday.

Lugano, however, has launched a fierce defence of his Uruguay teammate, stating that Suarez 'has not deserved the treatment'.

"[Suarez] has gone through a few months he did not deserve. Everyone in football knows it is a big circus. Take into account that England is historically a colonial country and racism is a sensitive subject," Lugano told his club's official website.

"It's a football argument, and many false moralists and hypocrites have profited, and Luis is the only innocent party in this situation."

Suarez has recently been linked with a move to PSG.
