Barcelona want to sign Manchester United attacker Juan Mata on a free transfer at the end of the season, according to a report.

Barcelona reportedly want to sign Manchester United attacker Juan Mata on a free transfer this summer.

Mata's deal with United will expire at the end of the 2018-19 campaign, meaning that he is currently free to discuss a move to a non-English club with the view to signing a pre-contract.

According to The Sun, Barca have already opened talks with Mata's agent, who is also his father, in an attempt to bring the Spaniard back to La Liga ahead of the 2019-2020 season.

The same report claims that Mata is due to be offered a 12-month deal by Barca, although the playmaker is keen to sign a two-year contract.

The 30-year-old started his professional career with Real Madrid Castilla, before playing over 170 times for Valencia ahead of a move to Chelsea in the summer of 2011.

This season, the 41-time Spain international has contributed five goals and three assists in 28 appearances in all competitions.
