Manchester United are reportedly eyeing up a move for Leicester City midfielder Harry Winks, with the Red Devils viewing the 28-year-old as a great low-cost option.

Manchester United are reportedly interested in Leicester City midfielder Harry Winks.

The 28-year-old has enjoyed somewhat of a renaissance over the past 12 months since making the high-profile switch from Tottenham Hotspur to the Foxes on a permanent deal.

Winks, who possesses too much talent to spend longer than a campaign in the Championship, helped Leicester to the second-tier title under Enzo Maresca last term.

The former Spurs youngster continues to be an important cog in Steve Cooper's Foxes side, playing every single minute of his team's Premier League schedule to date.

Despite Winks's best efforts from the base of midfield, Leicester are yet to enjoy their maiden victory of the league term, collecting three points from five top-flight matches so far.

Man United keen on Leicester star Winks?

According to Spanish publication Fijaches, Man United are targeting the acquisition of another central midfielder during the January transfer window.

The report claims that the Red Devils are keen on a potential New Year swoop for Leicester's Winks, who is a stalwart in the engine room at the King Power Stadium.

It is understood that Man United head coach Erik ten Hag believes that the 28-year-old would be a great fit to the style of play at Old Trafford.

Also, midfielder Winks is supposedly viewed as a low-cost option by the Premier League powerhouses, allowing them to focus on big-money signings in other positions.

With the 10-time England international's contract in the East Midlands expiring in June 2026, Leicester are in a relatively good position to drive a hard bargain for the player.

Man United's current midfield options

Man United appear well-stocked in the deep-lying midfield department following a major bit of business during the closing stages of the summer transfer window.

Regarded as one of the best combative midfielders in world football, Manuel Ugarte secured a £43m switch from Paris Saint-Germain to the Theatre of Dreams on the final day of August.

The plan will be for the 23-year-old to partner United academy graduate Kobbie Mainoo in the team's engine room as they seek to return to former glories in the comings years under Ten Hag.

It is hard to imagine Winks earning a spot in the Red Devils' best XI, however the 28-year-old could represent a solid backup option in midfield.
