Goalkeeper David de Gea hints that he remains confident about eventually signed a new contract at Manchester United.

Goalkeeper David de Gea has hinted that he is confident regarding an extended stay at Manchester United.

The Spaniard is currently United's longest-serving player in the squad having made 517 appearances in all competitions since his 2011 arrival.

If reports are to be believed, the 32-year-old is keen to remain at Old Trafford in the long term, but there have been no clear signs from the club that they wish to do business.

United are yet to take up their option to extend De Gea's current terms by an extra 12 months, the suggestion being that there is a lack of interest in committing to paying the stopper's high wages for another year.

That has left De Gea in a position where he is free to discuss a pre-contract agreement with any interested foreign clubs.

Nevertheless, it appears that De Gea is only focused on life at the Theatre of Dreams and trying to secure at least another season at the Premier League giants.

As quoted by BBC Sport, De Gea said: "We're still talking. For sure it's going to end in a good way."

"I've been in very tough moments for this club. Now I'm enjoying it more. It's great. The team spirit is great; the atmosphere is great. Everyone is thinking in the same way, playing in the same way."

Despite the ongoing speculation regarding his future, De Gea has remained as the first choice between the sticks under Erik ten Hag.

As many as 30 appearances have been made in all competitions, including 21 in the Premier League where United currently occupy third spot in the standings.

Such has been De Gea's reported stance that little interest has been reported from elsewhere, even though he would not be short of offers.

The former Atletico Madrid man is also rumoured to be ready to take a pay cut if it means that he can remain as first choice at United.

United are left to weigh up whether to take that approach with De Gea or commit a portion of their summer warchest to trying to secure a quality alternative.

Current deputies Tom Heaton and Jack Butland do not fall into that bracket, the former turning 37 years of age in January and the latter only being on loan from Crystal Palace.
