Real Madrid to offer Raphael Varane 50% pay rise?

Real Madrid will reportedly try to convince Raphael Varane to turn down interest from Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain by offering him a big pay rise.

Real Madrid are reportedly prepared to make Raphael Varane one of their highest-paid players by offering him a 50% pay rise.

The France international's future has been called into question in recent weeks as he is rumoured to have asked for a move away.

Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have been linked, while Juventus and Bayern Munich are also believed to be tempted to make an approach.

Zinedine Zidane is desperate to make sure Varane does not quit this summer, though, and AS reports that a new €9m (£7.7m)-a-year contract could be tabled - a vast increase on his current €6m (£5.2m) salary.

Madrid had initially planned to open contract talks next year, having only tied down the 25-year-old in 2017, but it is claimed that they will now speed up negotiations as a result of the growing interest in one of their key players.

Among other major honours, Varane has won four Champions Leagues, a World Cup, four Club World Cups and two La Liga titles.
