Liverpool prospect Ethan Ennis is likely to join Chelsea or Manchester United after rejecting the Reds' scholarship offer, according to a report.

Manchester United and Chelsea are reportedly preparing to battle it out for the signature of Liverpool starlet Ethan Ennis.

The 16-year-old made a positive impression for Liverpool's Under-18s in the 2020-21 campaign, registering five goals and one assist from eight appearances in all competitions.

Three of those strikes came when Ennis notched up a hat-trick in a 6-0 thrashing of Sutton United in the FA Youth Cup, but he did not play another minute in the competition as Liverpool lost to Aston Villa in the final.

The versatile youngster has supposedly rejected the Reds' offer of a scholarship, though, and the Liverpool Echo now claims that a move to United or Chelsea is the most likely outcome.

The report adds that Liverpool will put their efforts into garnering a development fee for the teenager, which could lead to a tribunal if no agreement is struck.

Ennis featured seven times in the Under-18 Premier League last season, chalking up goals against Sunderland and Burnley's youth teams.
