Manchester United, Arsenal target Benedikt Howedes?

Manchester United and Arsenal are both considering launching summer moves for Schalke defender Benedikt Howedes, according to reports.

Schalke 04 defender Benedikt Howedes has reportedly emerged as a possible transfer target for Manchester United and Arsenal.

United are believed to be prioritising a move for a centre-back when the summer window opens, but doubts remain over whether they will be able to persuade Borussia Dortmund's Mats Hummels to move to Old Trafford.

Arsene Wenger strengthened his defence in January with the signing of Gabriel Paulista from Villarreal, and the Frenchman could sanction another move as he looks to improve the options in his squad.

According to The Mirror, both United and Arsenal are keeping a close eye on Howedes, whose ability to also play at left-back makes him an attractive player to the two clubs.

The report claims that Arsenal scouts watched Howedes score the equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich on Tuesday evening.
