Manchester United 'sounded out over James Rodriguez deal'

Manchester United are sounded out by Real Madrid over a potential summer move for James Rodriguez, according to a report.

Manchester United have reportedly been sounded out over a potential deal for out-of-favour Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez.

The 28-year-old has fallen down the pecking order under Zinedine Zidane and continues to be linked with a move away from the Bernabeu.

United, Arsenal, Everton and Newcastle United have all been touted as possible destinations, although a recent report suggested that Rodriguez would prefer a move to local rivals Atletico Madrid.

Nevertheless, The Sun reports that Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reassessing his transfer strategy ahead of a window likely to be heavily impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.

The report claims that United have admired Rodriguez for some time and Real are keen to ship out the Colombian for the sake of their own financial position, but Solskjaer has not yet made firm plans for the summer window.

Rodriguez, who has only managed seven La Liga appearances for Los Blancos this term, is out of contract in the Spanish capital next summer.
