Manchester United 'will target Gareth Bale if Jadon Sancho bid fails'

Manchester United will reportedly move for Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale if they fail to make progress with their bid to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.

Manchester United are reportedly prepared to renew their interest in Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale.

While United are currently focused on trying to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, they are not prepared to pay the winger's £108m asking price.

Although a number of alternatives have been suggested in recent weeks, the Daily Star claims that Bale is United's preferred option.

The Wales international, who has two years left on his contract, remains down the pecking order under Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane.

The La Liga champions are allegedly prepared to consider handing Bale a free transfer, providing that he gives up the remaining 12 months of his deal.

A potential stumbling block could be United's desire to sign the 31-year-old on loan, an option which has frequently been dismissed by Bale's agent Jonathan Barnett.
