Juan Mata: 'I hope Javier Hernandez stays at Manchester United'

Juan Mata urges Manchester United bosses not to let go of Javier Hernandez.

Juan Mata has urged Manchester United bosses not to let go of Javier Hernandez this summer, even though the Mexican striker continues to be linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old spent last season on loan at Real Madrid and is now rumoured to be a target for Brendan Rodgers's Liverpool.

However, teammate Mata acknowledges Hernandez's threat in front of goal and hopes that the striker will stay and fight for his place in Louis van Gaal's squad.

"Chicharito still belongs to Manchester United and selfishly I'd like him to be with us," Mata told reporters.

"He has scored goals in every team he has played in and is a very smart striker.

"Chicharito is a great friend. When I arrived to Manchester he behaved great with me. He is a great person and a great professional. I've been lucky enough to share a dressing room with Chicharito, whom I admire."

Hernandez scored eight times during his loan spell with Real last season, making 23 La Liga appearances.
