Paul Merson: 'Cristiano Ronaldo wouldn't fit in at Manchester United'

Paul Merson says that he would be "shocked" if Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo returns to Manchester United as he "doesn't suit" their style of play.

Paul Merson has said that he would be "shocked" if Cristiano Ronaldo returned to Manchester United.

David Beckham has urged the Real Madrid forward to contemplate a move back to Old Trafford, but Merson has said that the 2013 and 2014 Ballon d'Or holder "would not fit in" with the new regime.

"Ronaldo would not fit in at United under Louis van Gaal," Merson told the Daily Star. "I don't think he'd suit them.

"He's one of the best players in the world but he's also one of the most selfish. He's not a team player.

"United under Van Gaal are all about discipline and keeping your shape, working back and defending as a team. That's not Ronaldo at all. I'd be shocked if it happened."

Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes recently said that he thinks Ronaldo will end his career in the Spanish capital.
