Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes admits that he is unsure whether Odion Ighalo is good enough for the Red Devils.

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has admitted that he is unsure whether Odion Ighalo has the quality required to turn out for the 20-time English champions.

The Red Devils were linked with a number of forwards during the January transfer window before confirming that they had signed Ighalo on loan from Shanghai Shenhua for the remainder of the season.

The Nigeria international is in line to make his debut for the club against Chelsea on Monday night, but Scholes has questioned whether it was the right deal for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

"I don't think he's a signing for the long term. I think his scoring record in China is very good, but is it that credible? I don't know," The Mirror quotes Scholes as saying.

"He's an out-and-out centre forward and I don't think United have an out-and-out centre forward. He'll play with his back to goal and he might bring players into play.

"It's good to have an extra body, but when you're United, you want an extra body with quality, and he's got that to prove. He'll bring something different. I don't see him starting many games."

The 30-year-old scored 40 goals in 100 appearances during his time with Watford.
