Manchester United chiefs reportedly promise David Moyes that he will be allowed to decide whether Wayne Rooney stays or goes this summer.

Manchester United chiefs have reportedly promised David Moyes that he will be allowed to decide whether Wayne Rooney stays or goes this summer.

It was claimed earlier this week that Rooney had requested to leave Old Trafford at the end of this season, only to be told by Sir Alex Ferguson that he was not for sale.

Moyes has since agreed a six-year contract to replace Ferguson as United boss and, according to The Metro, the 50-year-old Scot has been told that he can have the final say on Rooney's future.

Everton manager Moyes sold Rooney to United in 2004 and the pair have had a rocky past.

In 2007, Moyes launched a libel suit against Rooney for comments made in the player's autobiography.

Rooney apologised in 2008 and the matter was settled out of court.
