Alexis Sanchez: 'Romelu Lukaku convinced me to join Inter Milan'

Alexis Sanchez says that former Manchester United teammate Romelu Lukaku 'convinced him' to join Inter Milan.

Alexis Sanchez has revealed that former Manchester United teammate Romelu Lukaku 'convinced him' to join Inter Milan.

Lukaku completed a permanent move to Inter in the latter stages of the English transfer window, before Sanchez joined the Italian giants on loan ahead of the European deadline.

The Chile international, who is due to spend the 2019-20 campaign on loan at San Siro, credited I Nerazzurri boss Antonio Conte for playing a key role in the move.

However, the attacker has also said that Lukaku was an important part of the deal, with the pair said to have had a number of telephone conversations over the summer.

"I am happy to return to Italian football, then we will see. I want to do only the best for me, for the team and for the Inter fans," Sanchez told Sky in Italy.

"We can talk about a championship, I am here to win something. The team has not won for eight years, but has everything to do it.

"The group is young and strong, there is a coach who wants to win. The presence of Conte was important, he conveys confidence to the players. Lukaku is happy to be here, he also convinced me to come here."

Sanchez, who has scored just five times in 45 appearances for United, is contracted to the 20-time English champions until the end of the 2021-22 campaign.
