Manchester United transfer news update: Ruben Amorim interested in 'next Erling Haaland' ahead of summer window

Manchester United reportedly hold interest in the signature of a young striker who has drawn comparisons to Manchester City attacker Erling Haaland.

Manchester United are reported to be interested striker Oghenetejiri Adejenughure of Austrian second tier side Liefering.

The Red Devils return to Premier League action on Tuesday against Nottingham Forest following the end of the March international break, and Ruben Amorim's side enter their clash against Forest as underdogs.

United are in 13th place with just 37 points after 29 matchweeks, and the club's record of 37 goals scored is the seventh-worst offensive return in the top flight.

Amorim will likely need reinforcements in the forward line if he is to turn the team's fortunes around in 2025-26, but with his side facing financial difficulties, the Portuguese coach may not be able to sign star attackers.

The club could look to younger and more affordable talents such as Adejenughure, who the Daily Star claim the Red Devils have scouted this season.

Adejenughure has drawn comparisons to Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, and he was recently invited to train with the Austrian senior team by boss Ralf Rangnick.

The teenager is six-foot tall and is able to cover ground quickly, hold off opposition defenders and strike powerfully at goal.

United will be keen to avoid repeating the same mistake that they made with Haaland, who was recommended to the club by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer when the Norwegian was still at Molde.

Are United pursuing the right strategy?

While Adejenughure has admirers across the continent - AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund are said to hold an interest in the forward - signing him would be risky if they plan on using him in the first team.

The 18-year-old has only played 867 minutes of football in the Austrian second tier, and it would be surprising if he was able to take the step-up to Premier League football so quickly.

Perhaps Amorim could look to loan him while developing the likes of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, but it remains to be seen if the duo can be relied upon to lead the Red Devils back to the Champions League.
