Louis van Gaal has warned Manchester United supporters that they will need to be "patient" with Memphis Depay.
The PSV Eindhoven winger is on the verge of signing for the Red Devils following confirmation that he had passed a medical at the club's Carrington training base yesterday afternoon.
He will arrive in England as the leading goalscorer in last season's Eredivisie, but at the age of 21, Van Gaal believes that the Dutch international will need time to adapt to a new league.
"I worked with Memphis during last summer's World Cup with the Netherlands and he has great potential," Van Gaal wrote in his column in United's matchday programme.
"The plan is to help him develop as a player, but we must all be patient. The Premier League is very different from any other league and it will take time for him to fully adapt to the pace and unforgiving nature of football in this country."
Depay is expected to set United back around £25m.
