Live Commentary: Olympic men's football - day three as it happened

Sports Mole brings you live coverage from day three of the men's football at the 2012 Olympic Games.

Good afternoon and welcome to Sports Mole's live coverage from day three of the men's football at the 2012 Olympic Games.

Team GB's women's outfit emerged from their section as group winners on Tuesday, and Stuart Pearce's side will look to follow suit this evening.

We have all 16 Olympic teams in action on day three, with a number of permutations to consider as the group phase of the competition draws to a close.

Team GB will look to secure their spot in the latter stages when they face Uruguay this evening, while favourites Brazil face New Zealand in the early kickoff.

Note that the live action begins at 2.30pm.

9.55That just about does it this evening. Thanks for joining Sports Mole for the coverage and be sure to join us for the latter stages of the tournament. We will be back on Friday for the quarter-finals of the women's draw. We hope to see you then!

9.50What an incredible day of football. Team GB beat the Copa America champions. Spain end their tournament having failed to score a single goal. Japan sensationally top Group D. Just amazing.

9.47Semi-final one: Mexico/Senegal vs. Japan/Egypt.

Semi-final two: Brazil/Honduras vs. Team GB/South Korea.

9.4512pm: Japan vs. Egypt.

2.30pm: Mexico vs. Senegal.

5pm: Brazil vs. Honduras.

7.30pm: Team GB vs. South Korea.

9.43All four quarter-finals will take place on Saturday.

9.41So there we have it. The bad news for Team GB? They are in Brazil's half of the semi-final draw.

9.40Quarter-final fixtures: Japan vs. Egypt, Mexico vs. Senegal, Brazil vs. Honduras, Team GB vs. South Korea.

9.39So there we have it! Team GB book their spot in the quarter-finals following a 1-0 win over a poor Uruguay team. Daniel Sturridge scored the only goal of the match, and they will now face South Korea in the quarter-finals.

FULL-TIMETeam GB 1-0 Uruguay

9.37Chance for Ramirez in the latter stages, but he rattles the crossbar with an effort. So unlucky. Meanwhile, change for Team GB as Craig Dawson replaces Sturridge.

9.35FULL-TIME: Senegal 1-1 UAE: Senegal book their spot in the latter stages with a 1-1 draw against UAE. They will face Mexico in the quarter-finals.

9.35Ramsey picks up a booking for time wasting. I think he will take that one. We have played two minutes of the added four.

9.33We will play four minutes of added time.

9.33Another Uruguay attack comes and goes as Suarez loses possession. Meanwhile, change for Team GB as Sinclair is replaced by Jack Cork.

9.31Chance! So nearly the leveller for Uruguay as Suarez searches out Cavani in the box, but Caulker makes the challenge.

9.29Allen escapes a booking as he brings Arevalo down outside the box, it is just ever so scrappy at the moment. Meanwhile, Campana denies Sturridge down the other end.

9.27Two bookings for Uruguay as Arias and Lodeiro both talk their way into the book. You can just sense their frustration.

9.25It's Coates who meets the header this time, but it was always moving wide of the target. Little under 10 minutes to play here.

9.24... but Richards jumps highest to clear the danger for a corner. Still the pressure remains.

9.24Chance for Uruguay to whip a free-kick into the box as Suarez is felled by Cleverley...

9.24Update: Senegal 1-1 UAE: Senegal remain second in Group A with little over 10 minutes to play.

9.22Cavani is not happy about the amount of time Bellamy took to leave the pitch. Come on, let him enjoy it in his home town!

9.22I think Stuart Pearce heard me. Bellamy departs for Tottenham Hotspur youngster Danny Rose.

9.20It is simply all Uruguay at the moment. Team GB need to make a change.

9.18Chance! Another chance for Uruguay as Ramirez finds Suarez in the box, but once more he is penalised for handball. Why not just turn it into the net?!

9.16Much brighter for Uruguay as Ramirez attempts to find Suarez in the box, but Caulker makes the block. Suarez looks a man on a mission at the moment.

9.14Much better from Uruguay with Cavani and Ramirez both involved, but Suarez is penalised for handball.

9.12First real involvement for Cavani as he strikes from outside the box, but Butland gathers the danger. The South American side are beginning to threaten.

9.10Half-chance for Team GB as Taylor curls an effort from distance, but it was always moving just wide of the post.

9.10Chance! Wonderful save from Butland as he denies Suarez from close range, while Cavani puts it wide from a difficult angle.

9.08Update: Senegal 1-1 UAE: Senegal remain second in Group A as it stands.

9.06Just a sighter for Team GB at the far post, but Richards just cannot make contact with the cross. Little over 30 minutes remaining in Cardiff.

9.06Again bellamy continues to threaten down the right as he forces yet another corner - their fifth of the match.

9.04You just have to question whether Uruguay really want to win this match. They have two of the best strikers in the world, but they just have not performed.

9.02Change for Uruguay as Nicolas Lodeiro replaces Viudez.

9.02The final ball just is not there for Uruguay at the moment as Coates fires it long for Suarez. Meanwhile, Sturridge tests Campana from close range down the other end.

9.00Extremely neat and tidy from Team GB with Allen and Cleverley dictating the tempo in midfield. There really has been a nice feel to their side this evening.

8.58Chance! So nearly a leveller for Uruguay as Suarez dances into the box, but Butland makes a wonderful save at his feet. Brilliant goalkeeping.

8.56Just a sighter for Team GB as Ramsey strikes from outside the box, but Campana collects with ease.

8.54There are clear sings that the South Americans are beginning to get frustrated. I wouldn't be surprised to see a red card in the latter stages of this one.

8.52Again it's smart possession from Team GB, but they just cannot find the final ball. Meanwhile, Coates has been booked for a horror challenge on Bellamy.

8.52Update: GOAL! Senegal 1-1 UAE (Konate) Moussa Konate adds his fourth goal of the tournament to level the score for Senegal.

8.50Team GB advance straight down the other end, but Sinclair is ruled offside as he picks Sturridge out in the box. More excitement in opening two minutes of this half than in the opening 45 of the first.

8.50Immediate improvement from Uruguay as they close possession in the Team GB half. They force a corner, but it is cleared.

8.48Here we go then. Team GB get us underway in the second period. Meanwhile, Senegal vs. UAE is also underway.

8.46Garth Crooks tells the BBC that he has been impressed with the opening half. Not sure that I can agree there Garth.

8.44Just a reminder that Japan, Egypt, Mexico, Brazil, Honduras and South Korea have already booked their spot in the quarter-finals.

8.42Meanwhile, our report of the opening half can be found here.

8.40Team GB have also dominated shots on target three-to-one - with Uruguay struggling to fashion anything of note.

8.38Let's take a look at some statistics from the opening half of football. Team GB have enjoyed 68% possession, while they have had seven shots to Uruguay's five.

8.36As it stands: Team GB will top the group. Meanwhile, Senegal will finish second.

8.34So there we have it. Sturridge strikes on the stroke of the interval to send Team GB into a half-time lead. In truth, the first 44 minutes were poor, but Team GB enter the break the happier.

8.32HALF-TIME: Senegal 0-1 UAE: Senegal remain 1-0 behind at the break, but they are still through as it stands.

HALF-TIMETeam GB 1-0 Uruguay

8.30Team GB take the lead on the stroke of the interval as Allen puts it on a plate for Sturridge, and the Chelsea man taps home at the far post.

8.30GOAL! Team GB 1-0 Uruguay (Sturridge)

8.29Just a sighter for Team GB as Sturridge strikes one from distance, but it was always rising over the bar.

8.28However, Cavani heads the danger clear. Little over one minute of normal time remaining.

8.28Bellamy continues to give Arias nightmares down the right. Chance for Team GB to whip a cross into the area as the Welshman is felled.

8.2667% possession for Team GB as we approach the break, Uruguay have been really poor if truth be told.

8.24Chance! Again it's brilliant work from Bellamy as he fires a low cross into the box, but Ramsey just cannot make contact.

8.24It's really strong work from Cleverley in the middle of midfield as he takes the ball away from Ramirez, before the midfielder fells Bellamy. Still 0-0 as we approach the break.

8.22Update: Senegal 0-1 UAE: Senegal remain 1-0 behind with half time fast approaching.

8.20However, replays have shown that the ball struck Allen's chest rather than his arm. Good refereeing.

8.20Finally Suarez and Cavani combine to good effort for Uruguay to force a corner - with brings a huge penalty shout from the South Americans.

8.18Really bold goalkeeping from Martin Campana as he punches clear under the challenge of Richards. He is probably the last person you would want jumping towards you!

8.16Chance! So nearly for Uruguay as Suarez finds himself unmarked in the box, but it's a wonderful challenge from Richards.

8.16Sighter for Team GB as Taylor picks up possession outside the box, but he fires it wide of the target.

8.14Chance! Brilliant work from Bellamy as he finds Ramsey out wide, but the Arsenal midfielder's cross is too long for Sturridge.

8.12First real chance of the match for Uruguay as Ramirez strikes from outside the box, but it just moves over the bar. Better from the South Americans.

8.10So, 25 minutes played in Cardiff. In truth, there has not been a great deal to get excited about thus far.

8.08GOAL! Senegal 0-1 UAE (Matar): Ismaeil Matar hands UAE a 21st minute lead against Senegal. However, the Africans are still through as it stands.

8.08Coates meets the cross from Suarez, but he heads it straight over the bar.

8.07First yellow card of the match goes to Neil Taylor for a foul on Viudez. It wasn't a clever tackle. Meanwhile, the South Americans have a chance to put a cross into the box.

8.07Still not a single shot from Uruguay as we enter the 22nd minute of the match. However, Egidio Arevalo is beginning to put himself about in midfield.

8.05There's just no pressure from Uruguay at the moment with Team GB allowed to pick their passes in midfield. Meanwhile, Suarez is trying to do it alone.

8.03Just isn't quite happening for Uruguay at the moment as Matias Aguirregaray plays it straight out of play. Team GB on the attack once more.

8.01Chance! So nearly for Team GB as he ball bounces inside the opposition box, but Coates just beats Sturridge to the ball.

8.01Really good work from Ramsey as he dances into the Uruguay box, but he is just crowded out at the vital moment. There is a nice balance to Pearce's side at the start of this match.

7.59The match has just begun to settle after a lively opening from both teams. Although Team GB are certainly playing the better football.

7.57Biggest cheer of the match thus far as Suarez trips and falls. That just about sums up his tournament! Meanwhile, half-chance for Viudez as he meets an Arias cross, but it drifts behind.

7.55Bellamy really has made a storming start to this match. Meanwhile, the passing is so fluid from Team GB at the moment.

7.53First real chance of the match for Team GB as Taylor releases Bellamy down the right, but his cross is just missed by Sinclair.

7.51Again it's bright work from Bellamy as he evades the challenge of Ramon Arias, but once more his cross is cut out. Meanwhile, Ramsey has made a really bright start this evening.

7.49Nice work from Bellamy as he advances down the right, but his cross is just too long for Sturridge. End-to-end start in this one.

7.47Ramsey seems to be playing much further forward this evening with Allen and Cleverley sitting deeper. He picks up possession in a decent area, but is just crowded out by Coates.

7.47Early chance for Uruguay as Suarez searches out Ramirez, but Caulker is on hand to clear the danger. Uruguay have started the better here.

7.45Bright early start for Uruguay with Gaston Ramirez searching out Cavani, but the Napoli man is ruled offside.

7.45Here we go then. It's over to the players now. Senegal vs. UAE is also underway.

7.43Brilliantly received in Cardiff as the two teams exchange handshakes.

7.41Now it's Team GB's turn. There are some jeers, but more singing than boos. Brilliant news.

7.41Here we go then. National anthem time. Uruguay first, and there is certainly some dodgy singing on display.

7.39Strong words from Alan Hansen and Robbie Savage on the BBC as they rally Team GB! Meanwhile, the players are emerging onto the pitch.

7.37Little under 10 minutes remaining until kickoff. The fans really are raising the roof inside the Millennium Stadium.

7.35Both Team GB and Uruguay will have to assume that Senegal will beat UAE this evening, and therefore this is such a key encounter.

7.33Just a reminder that the winner of Group A will face South Korea in the quarter-finals. Meanwhile, the runner-up will face Mexico.

7.31Wouldn't it be just like football for Cavani and Suarez to explode this evening after a poor campaign thus far. Those two - along with Ramirez - are certainly the danger men for Uruguay.

7.29Craig Bellamy tells the BBC that he hopes it will be respected this evening. We shall have to wait and see.

7.27Meanwhile, the atmosphere is building in Wales this evening. Will the national anthem be respected?

7.25There are suggestions that Giggs could be carrying a slight knock, and has been rested this evening, rather than dropped.

7.23Meanwhile, the full team news for Senegal vs. UAE can be found here.

7.21Pearce's final message for his players? Do not lose the game. Suarez and Cavani have not fired for Uruguay thus far, but they will certainly be fired up this evening.

7.19Ryan Bertrand also comes into the side tonight in place of James Tomkins - with the West Ham United man looking shaky last time out.

7.17Meanwhile, Joe Allen and Tom Cleverley will provide the legs in midfield once more, with Giggs starting the match on the bench.

7.15Where will tonight's match be won and lost? It is interesting that Sinclair has been given a start tonight, and Stuart Pearce will look to him to provide pace down the right.

7.13Uruguay: Campana; Arias, Coates, Rolin, Aguirregaray; Ramirez, Rodriguez, Arevalo; Cavani, Suarez, Viudez

7.13Team GB: Butland; Taylor, Caulker, Richards, Bertand; Cleverley, Allen, Ramsey, Sinclair; Bellamy, Sturridge

7.11Team GB will also qualify if they avoid defeat, while they will top the group if they better Senegal's result. Uruguay need the victory in order to progress.

7.09Just a reminder at how Group A currently sits. Senegal currently sit top and need just a point to progress. Meanwhile, UAE cannot qualify.

7.07BREAKING: Senegal name a strong side for their match with UAE - with Moussa Konate, Mohamed Diame and Magaye Gueye all starting. Full team news will follow.

7.05Meanwhile, Edison Cavani and Luis Suarez both start for Uruguay.

7.05Ryan Giggs drops to the bench for Team GB along with Marvin Sordell and James Tomkins. Full team news will follow.

7.03BREAKING: Daniel Sturridge, Ryan Bertrand and Scott Sinclair start for Team GB.

7.01The draw is as follows: Japan vs. Egypt, Mexico vs. Senegal/Team GB/Uruguay, Brazil vs. Honduras, South Korea vs. Senegal/Team GB/Uruguay.

6.59Phew! Just the one goal in the four 5pm kickoffs, but we now know six of the eight teams who will play in the quarter-finals.

6.57Quarter-finalists: Japan, Egypt, Mexico, Brazil, Honduras, South Korea.

6.55So there we have it. Spain end their tournament with just one point and having not scored a single goal. Just incredible. They are eliminated from the Olympics along with Morocco.

6.53FULL-TIME: Korea 0-0 Gabon: Korea secure the point they needed to advance to the quarter-finals in second spot in Group B.

6.52FULL-TIME: Mexico 1-0 Switzerland: Mexico secure top spot in Group B following the victory.

6.52FULL-TIME: Japan 0-0 Honduras: Honduras secure the point they needed to grab second spot in Group D. They progress along with Japan.

FULL-TIMESpain 0-0 Morocco:

6.50Chance for Tello to win it at the death, but it just drifts away at the vital moment. Incredible.

6.50Chance! Wonderful chance for Spain in the latter stages as Adrian strikes from close range, but it smashes off the crossbar via the goalkeeper.

6.48Another quick counter for Morocco with Amrabat leading the charge, but Spain get back in numbers to clear the danger.

6.46Little over three minutes to play at Old Trafford and we remain 0-0. As it stands, both these teams are heading out of the tournament.

6.44Brilliant goalkeeping from De Gea as he plucks a Labyad cross out the air. Spain are on the attack in the latter stages.

6.42Chance! Big chance for Morocco as Amrabat finds Labyard, but he strikes it over from close range.

6.40As it stands: Mexico, Korea and Honduras will join Japan, Egypt and Brazil in the quarter-finals.

6.38Another chances comes and goes for Spain as Romeu strikes from outside the box, but it is gathered with ease. Just about 10 minutes remaining at Old Trafford.

6.36Morocco continue to defend well as Tello is crowded out in the area. It must be said that they have been impressive this early evening.

6.36Update: Japan 0-0 Honduras, Mexico 1-0 Switzerland, South Korea 0-0 Gabon, Spain 0-0 Morocco.

6.34Chance! Another fine chance for Spain as Alba finds Mata at the far post, but his volley is high and wide.

6.32There are just signs that Spain are beginning to get to grips with the game. You can just feel that there is going to a goal in this as Mata tests the goalkeeper from close range.

6.30Suddenly it's all Spain as Tello and Romeu come close, but Morocco hold on. Little over 20 minutes remaining.

6.28Meanwhile, change for Morocco as Bidaoui is replaced by El Hassanoui.

6.28Chance! Oh my word! Miss of the tournament for Spain as Adrian chips just wide while one-on-one with the goalkeeper. It was dreadful.

6.27Update: GOAL! Mexico 1-0 Switzerland (Peralta): Mexico take the lead and it's Oribe Peralta who opens the scoring after 69 minutes.

6.27Chance! Spain's best chance of the second period falls to Mata, but the Chelsea man just fires it past the post.

6.25Meanwhile, another change for Spain as Muniain is replaced by Koke for the final 25 minutes.

6.23Make no mistake about it, Morocco look the most likely to win this at the moment. As it stands, they are heading out of the tournament.

6.21Again Amrabat threatens in an advanced area, but his effort is high and wide when he might have done better. Spain are just not in this at the moment.

6.19Chance! Best chance of the match for Morocco as Amrabat finds Barrada, but it's a wonderful save from De Gea.

6.19Still no goals in any of the four 5pm kickoffs. Quite incredible!

6.17Amrabat continues to cause Spain all sorts of problems with his direct running, how good has he been today?!

6.15Update: Japan 0-0 Honduras, Mexico 0-0 Switzerland, South Korea 0-0 Gabon, Spain 0-0 Morocco.

6.15Brilliant work from Amrabat as he dances past two challenges, but his effort is just cut out by Martinez. Meanwhile, change for Spain as Isco is replaced by Cristian Tello.

6.13Chance! Suddenly it's all Morocco as Amrabat chips just over the bar from close range. They are having a real go in the sunshine - yes sunshine.

6.11Bit of a horror show from the referee as he brings back play for a foul on Amrabat when Morocco were advancing on goal. Safe to say that they are not best pleased!

6.09Spain are well and truly dominating possession in the early stages of the second period, but Morocco remain a threat on the break.

6.07Chance! So nearly the opener for Morocco as Amrabat attempts to chip De Gea from distance, but it just drifts over the bar.

6.05Decent start to the second period from Spain with Herrera searching out Muniain, but his pass is just too long.

6.05South Korea vs. Gabon is also underway in the second period.

6.03Here we go then. Meanwhile, Mexico vs. Switzerland is also underway.

6.02Meanwhile, change for Spain at the break as Ander Herrera replaces Javi Martinez.

6.02Japan vs. Honduras is underway in the second period.

6.01Both sets of players are just emerging onto the pitch for the second period.

5.59The rain will certainly quicken the pace of the second half. Although the pitch will now cut up - I'm sure the Manchester United groundsman will be thrilled.

5.57Incredible amount of rain falling in Manchester at the moment. The heavens have well and truly opened!

5.55Group D: As it stands, Japan will win the group with Honduras advancing in second spot.

5.53Group B: As it stands, Mexico will top the group with Korea advancing in second place.

5.51HALF-TIME: South Korea 0-0 Gabon: South Korea currently have the point they need to advance to the quarter-finals.

5.49So there we have it. We enter the break level at 0-0 in a lively opening 45 minutes of football at Old Trafford. Both sides have had chances, but neither has been able to convert.

HALF-TIMESpain 0-0 Morocco

5.47HALF-TIME: Mexico 0-0 Switzerland: Mexico remain top of Group B as it stands.

5.46HALF-TIME: Japan 0-0 Honduras: As it stands, Honduras have the point they need to advance to the quarter-finals.

5.46We are just entering the final moments of the half in this one, and the other three 5pm kickoffs. No goals in any match thus far.

5.44Wonderful feet from Barrada as he dances past the Spanish defence, but Amrabat is offside once more. The Moroccan midfielder has been very impressive in this opening half.

5.42However, Alba is up again and charging around. Can't have hurt too much then! Not long left in the opening period.

5.40Yellow card for Feddal as he chops down Alba. The Barcelona man looks hurt here. I am not sure if he will continue.

5.38Not a great atmosphere inside Old Trafford it must be said. Meanwhile, Spain continue to dominate possession in the latter stages of the half.

5.36However, Adrian gets up highest to clear the danger. Little over 10 minutes remaining in the opening half.

5.36What on earth is Martinez doing? He chops Amrabat down in his prime and gains a yellow card. Chance for Morocco to put a dangerous ball into the box.

5.34Update: Japan 0-0 Honduras, Mexico 0-0 Switzerland, South Korea 0-0 Gabon, Spain 0-0 Morocco.

5.34It's Spain who continue to play the better football as the half approaches its latter stages, with Mata so nearly finding Isco with a 40 yard ball.

5.32Chance! Wonderful football from Spain as Mata slips in Adrian, but the forward can only rattle the post from close range.

5.30Again it's decent work from Barrada as he attempts to find Amrabat in the box, but Alba is on hand to clear the danger. Really is a watchable match at the moment.

5.28Chance! So nearly 1-0 to Morocco as Barrada ghosts in at the far post, but his half-volley is just wide.

5.28Again it's really smart work from Adrian as he finds Muniain in the area, but Noussir denies the striker at the vital moment.

5.26Spain are just beginning to take control of this match in midfield with Mata and Muniain impressing.

5.24Here comes the Mexican wave at Old Trafford! Never a good sign for the quality of the game. Although, Romeu just denies Bidaoui in the area with a fine challenge.

5.22Update: Japan 0-0 Honduras, Mexico 0-0 Switzerland, South Korea 0-0 Gabon, Spain 0-0 Morocco.

5.22Chance! Clearest chance of the match for Spain as Mata feeds Adrian, but Noussir just makes the challenge at the vital moment.

5.20Again it's decent work from Muniain as he attempts to find Adrian, but the forward had just strayed offside. End-to-end stuff at the moment.

5.18Chance! So nearly the opener for Morocco as Driss Fettouhi finds Zouhair Feddal in the box, but he heads just wide.

5.16Penalty claim for Morocco as Martinez fells Bidaoui in the box, but the referee waves play on. That could have been given.

5.14Another chance for Morocco to get behind the Spanish defence as Soufiane Bidaoui plays in Amrabat, but once more the striker just strayed offside.

5.12Decent link-up between Mata and Muniain down the right, but the latter just runs the ball out of play.

5.12Sighter for Morocco as Labyad strikes a free-kick from 30 yards, but his effort just whistles past the post.

5.10Update: No goals in the four 5pm kickoffs thus far.

5.10Clearest chance of the match falls to Morocco as Labyad finds Noureddine Amrabat, but the striker is just given offside as he fires over the bar.

5.08More like it for Spain with Javi Martinez, Juan Mata and Romeu also involved in short snappy passing. However, it breaks down at the vital moment.

5.06Chance for Spain to advance on goal as Jordi Alba finds Adrian, but the striker's touch is poor and Mohamed Abarhoun clears the danger.

5.04First touch of the afternoon for David de Gea brings huge cheers from the crowd. He knows this stadium pretty well. Meanwhile, Spain have just begun to dominate possession in the past few moments.

5.02Morocco have certainly made the stronger start to proceedings, you have to question whether Spain's heart is really in this one.

5.02Storming start from Morocco with Zakaria Labyad advancing behind the Spain defence, but he is ruled offside.

5.00Here we go then. Spain get us underway on this mild evening in Manchester. Spain out of it, Morocco need to win.

4.58Japan vs. Honduras, Mexico vs. Switzerland and Korea vs. Gabon will soon get underway.

4.56Now it's Morocco's turn. What a huge match this is for the African nation. Can they give themselves a chance of making the latter stages?

4.56Here we go then. National anthem time. Spain will go first.

4.54Right, let's go to Old Trafford where the two teams are just emerging onto the pitch. It still seems strange that Spain have already crashed out.

4.52As promised - here is the full team news for Korea vs. Gabon.

4.50Team news for South Korea vs. Gabon is also filtering through, we will bring you that in a moment.

4.48Teams already through to the quarter-finals: Brazil, Belarus, Japan.

4.46Group B is also fairly straightforward with a point enough for Korea and Mexico to advance to the latter stages.

4.44Just a reminder that Morocco need to beat Spain, and hope that Japan beat Honduras to book their spot in the quarter-finals. Nice and easy for them then!

4.42Is it just me or has it suddenly got very rushed and busy? That's Olympic football for you!

4.40Meanwhile, the full team news for Mexico vs. Switzerland can be found here.

4.38As promised, here is the full team news for Spain vs. Morocco.

4.36The team news for the 5pm kickoffs is just filtering through. We shall bring it to you in full shortly.

4.34Four matches side by side at 5pm. Wish me luck! By the time 6.45 hits, we will know six of our eight quarter-finalists.

4.26Phew! That's Group C over and done with! Let's focus on what's to come. We have four matches due for a 5pm start.

4.24Brazil and Egypt advance from Group C into the quarter-finals.

4.22Full-time: Egypt 3-1 Belarus: Egypt book their spot in the quarter-finals following a 3-1 win over Belarus.

4.21Business as usual for Brazil as they make it nine points from nine with goals from Danilo, Damaio and Sandro. Our full report of the match can be found here.

FULL-TIMEBrazil 3-0 New Zealand:

4.20Final chance of the match goes to New Zealand, but Thiago Silva just hacks the ball clear of Wood.

4.18Three minutes of additional time at the end of the 90. Meanwhile, Egypt and Belarus are also into the latter stages.

4.18Chance for Brazil to add their fourth late on, but Romelu fires wide from outside the box. That is just about that for this one.

4.16Glorious chance for New Zealand to score just their third Olympic goal ever, but McGlinchey fires over from close range.

4.16Update: GOAL! Egypt 3-1 Belarus (Voronkov): Belarus have a late goal back from Andrei Voronkov, but it seems to be too little too late.

4.14So nearly 4-0 as Marcelo attempts a chip from just inside the box, but it drifted over the bar.

4.12Again it's really bright link-up between Lucas and Rafael down the right, but the danger is cleared at the vital moment.

4.10Little under 10 minutes remaining in this one as Michael McGlinchey fires an effort wide for New Zealand.

4.08Meanwhile, changes for both sides as Romulo and Oscar replace Sandro and Damiao for Brazil - and Dakota Lucas replaces Rojas for New Zealand.

4.07Update: GOAL! Egypt 3-0 Belarus (Aboutrika): Mohammed Aboutrika adds Egypt's third to all but send them into the latter stages.

4.06RED! Brazil are down to 10 men as Alex Sandro is dismissed for diving in the area. Two yellows and he is off.

4.04It's not a great challenge from Smeltz as he chops Neymar down. Meanwhile, Alexandre Pato will replace Neymar with 15 minutes remaining.

4.02Update: GOAL! Egypt 2-0 Belarus (Mohsen): Marwan Mohsen sends Egypt into a 2-0 lead. They are on course for the quarter-finals.

4.00Sighter for Brazil as Alex Sandro strikes from inside the box, but O'Keefee is on hand to clear the danger. Little over 20 minutes remaining.

3.58Update: Egypt 1-0 Belarus: Little over 20 minutes remaining at Hampden Park and Egypt still lead.

3.56Just as I say that, Lucas strikes a wonderful effort from distance which just whistles past the post. He has been really good this afternoon.

3.54Just a game of keep ball for Brazil at the moment as the minutes begin to drift by in the second period. It is a bit of a non-event at the moment.

3.52As it stands: Brazil will win Group C, with Egypt finishing second.

3.50I'm not too sure that it will have too much of an effect on the scoreline though!

3.50Chance! What a miss from Neymar as Rafael finds the striker at the far post, but he puts it over the crossbar. He is human!

3.48Another sighter for Brazil as Rafael strikes from outside the box, but it was always moving wide of the target. 30 minutes to play at St James' Park.

3.46However, Chris Wood heads over the bar. At least its a spell of rest for the New Zealand defence.

3.46The young lad Howieson has been bright for the Kiwis since coming on at the break - and his effort from outside the box draws the corner.

3.44It's a bright run from Myers as he strives forward, but he leaves an huge gap in defence, which Neymar so nearly takes.

3.42Update: GOAL! Egypt 1-0 Belarus: Egypt lead and it's Mohamed Salah who sends them ahead. As it stands, they would advance in second spot.

3.42It's not a clever challenge from Hogg as he chops Lucas down in his prime. Sense of frustration in the New Zealand team now.

3.40Brazil make it three at the beginning of the second period as Sandro heads in a Marcelo cross.

3.40GOAL! Brazil 3-0 New Zealand

3.38Another chance for Brazil as Lucas picks out Neymar in the box, but his cross is just blocked by Nelsen. This could be a long half for New Zealand.

3.36Half-chance for Brazil at the start of the second as Damiao turns on the edge of the box, but he is just crowded out at the vital moment.

3.34Nasty injury at the start of the second period for Hogg as he clashes heads with Neymar. He gets a bloody lip for his troubles.

3.32Double change for New Zealand at the break with Cameron Howieson and Tim Myers replacing Thomas and Barbarouses.

3.31Here we go then. Both sets of players are emerging onto the pitch for the second period. Meanwhile, Egypt and Morocco are also ready to start the second period.

3.29It must be said that there really is a wonderful atmosphere inside St James' Park this afternoon. As good as I've seen at the tournament thus far.

3.27Meanwhile, our report of the first period between Egypt and Belarus can be found here.

3.25Our report of the opening half between Brazil and New Zealand can be found here.

3.23Brazil will win the group, that's for certain. But the second spot is still very much undecided. Over to you Egypt and Belarus.

3.21Brazil have had 68% possession, while they have had 11 shots to New Zealand's one. They have also registered four on target in a quite stunning half of football.

3.19Let's take a look at the statistics from the opening half of football. Cover your eyes if you are a New Zealand supporter.

3.17HALF-TIME: Egypt 0-0 Belarus: Egypt have certainly enjoyed the better of it, but it remains 0-0 at the break. As it stands, Belarus will advance to the next round.

3.16Oh my word. What a half of football from Brazil. They lead courtesy of strikes from Danilo and Damiao. It could and perhaps should be more, with New Zealand just not in the match.

HALF-TIMEBrazil 2-0 New Zealand

3.14No real guilt-edged chances in the past 10 minutes or so as we approach the break. Brazil with possession.

3.14Half-chance for Neymar as he dances into the New Zealand box, but his effort is just blocked at the vital moment.

3.12New Zealand have actually defended quite well in the opening period, but they are 2-0 down. What does that say about Brazil?

3.10It's party time at the moment as Brazil just probe at the New Zealand defence. It is almost like they are toying with them. This really could be any score in the second period.

3.08New Zealand have just managed to stem the flow of pressure as Rojas buys a free-kick from Danilo. However, the danger is cleared.

3.06Again it is just wonderful from Brazil as Lucas looks for Neymar inside the box, but Nelsen just clears the danger. Just magic from Brazil.

3.04It's just lovely from Brazil at the moment as Lucas and Marcelo both come close within an instant. It's just all one-way traffic.

3.02Update: Egypt 0-0 Belarus: Egypt have had the best of it, but it remains 0-0 after 32 minutes.

3.02So, where do New Zealand go from here? It really could get nasty this one. For me, Brazil are a class above every team in the tournament.

3.00Brazil take a 2-0 lead and it's just lovely from Marcelo as the Real Madrid man finds Danilo, who puts it on a plate for Damiao. Wonderful on the eye.

3.00Brazil 2-0 New Zealand (Damiao)

2.58Penalty shout for Brazil as Lucas dances into the New Zealand box, but the referee waves play on following a challenge from Hogg.

2.56The pressure continued to build as Sandro strikes one from distance, it's just ever so comfortable for the yellows.

2.54This is Brazil's 11th Olympic Games in the men's football, but they are yet to win gold. Could it be their year?

2.54It was always going to be a difficult afternoon for New Zealand, but it has got just that bit harder after the opener.

2.52Brazil take the lead and it's a wonderful finish from Danilo after Damiao had sent the midfielder through on goal.

2.52Brazil 1-0 New Zealand (Danilo)

2.52Best period of the match for New Zealand as they keep possession inside the Brazil half. But Rojas just wanted too long on the ball and it breaks down.

2.52First effort of the match for New Zealand comes in the shape of Marco Rojas, but Gabriel collects the danger with ease.

2.50Neymar continues to pick up pockets of space between Leandro Damiao and Sandro, however, his pass is just too long for Damiao.

2.48Just a bit sloppy from Brazil in the final third as Rafael gives up possession. However, they continue to probe around the New Zealand box.

2.46New Zealand just cannot get into the match at the moment with Chris Wood and Shane Smeltz so isolated in attack. It is really difficult to make a case for them in this one.

2.44Update: Egypt 0-0 Belarus: As it stands, Belarus are heading into the quarter-finals along with Brazil.

2.44Best chance of the match falls to Brazil as Marcelo finds Neymar in the box, but the striker just fires his half-volley wide of the post. The pressure is growing at the moment.

2.42Another sighter for Brazil as Danilo strikes a free-kick from distance, but the wall blocks the danger.

2.40However, it's poor as Tim Payne clears the danger. New Zealand will be pretty happy with the opening they have made.

2.40Just lovely feet from Neymar as he weaves past two defenders, but he is hacked down in his prime. Free-kick Brazil about 45 yards out.

2.38Just a sighter for Brazil as Lucas finds Neymar outside the box, but the Santos striker's shot is wide of the post.

2.36Pass, pass, pass for Brazil at the moment with just over five minutes on the clock. They have the ball in the back of the net as Neymar slots home, but he is given offside.

2.34First half-chance of the match for Brazil as Danilo drives into the box, but Nelsen cuts out the cross. But Brazil will come again.

2.32I'm not too sure if New Zealand have completed a pass thus far. It's got the feel of a practice match for Brazil as Neymar and Lucas link up down the right.

2.30Really nice feet from Lucas Moura as he picks up possession before being fouled by Ian Hogg. It could be a long afternoon for the defender.

2.30Egypt vs. Belarus is also underway.

2.30Here we go then. New Zealand will start us off at St James' Park.

2.28Now it's New Zealand's turn, led by Queens Park Rangers defender Ryan Nelsen. A much calmer tune.

2.26A lot of serious faces in the Brazilian team as their anthem plays. They are an extremely proud nation that is for certain.

2.24Here we go then. Both sets of players are emerging onto the pitch.

2.22Meanwhile, the full team news for Egypt vs. Belarus can be found here.

2.20There is also a change in goal with Neto replaced by Gabriel. However, the same back four remains with Rafael and Marcelo either side of Thiago Silva and Juan.

2.18Let's go back to the Brazil team news for a moment. Mano Menezes has made a host of changes, but the team is still full of quality.

2.16Just a reminder that we also have Egypt vs. Belarus beginning at 2.30pm but have no fear, we will bring you ALL of the best action from both matches.

2.14Meanwhile, the full team news for Brazil vs. New Zealand can be found here.

2.12Phew! Complicated huh? Not to worry, we shall keep you updated with what is going on as the afternoon develops. A reminder that Japan and Brazil are the only two teams with a 100% record, and therefore the only sides currently in the latter stages.

2.10The final match pits Spain against Morocco - with the current world and European champions sensationally already out of the tournament. Back-to-back defeats have sent them packing, but they will be keen to end on a high against their African opponents. Morocco could still progress, but they must beat Spain and hope that Japan record all three points against Honduras.

2.08Finally onto Group D. Japan, like Brazil, have already booked their spot in the latter stages, and bar a minor miracle, they will top the group. They face Honduras this afternoon - who can advance with a point.

2.06Now onto Group C. Brazil have already booked their spot in the next round of the competition, while their opponents, New Zealand, have already been eliminated. The remaining spot will go to either Egypt or Belarus. Who takes the final spot is fairly straightforward; if Belarus claim a point then they will progress, while Egypt will advance with all three points.

2.04The second match in Group B pits South Korea against Gabon, with a similar situation to the first game. Korea need just a point to be sure of progressing, while they could win the group if Mexico do not beat Switzerland. Gabon need the win to stand any chance of progressing, but they will be reliant on other results going their way.

2.02Now onto Group B. Mexico currently sit top of the standings ahead of their match with Switzerland, and they need just a single point to ensure progress. Meanwhile, Switzerland must claim all three points to be certain of a spot in the next round.

2.00UAE cannot progress to the quarter-finals having lost their opening two games, but they could claim third by beating Senegal, if Team GB record all three points against Uruguay. Team GB just need a point to book their spot in the next round, but they will be eliminated at the expense of Uruguay should the South American outfit secure the win.

2.00Starting with Group A. Senegal currently sit top of the group following their win over Uruguay, and they will progress if they can secure a point this evening. They can also top the group with a draw, providing that Great Britain fail to match their result.

1.58Got it? Good! Now let's take a little look at the standings. Who is already through? Who is out? And who has to negotiate a goal-swing to book their spot in the quarter-finals?

1.56The evening's play will be completed when Senegal face United Arab Emirates, and Team GB face Uruguay in Group A at 7.45pm.

1.54Group B will also get underway at 5pm with Mexico facing Switzerland and South Korea taking on Gabon.

1.52Egypt and Belarus also get underway at 2.30pm in Group C. Meanwhile, Japan face Honduras and Spain take on Morocco in Group D at 5pm.

1.50BREAKING: Oscar, Hulk and Alexandre Pato all drop out for Brazil. Full team news will follow.

1.50Hello all! As mentioned above, the opening match of day three will begin at 2.30pm with Brazil, who have already qualified, taking on New Zealand in Group C.
