League Two roundup: Luton Town beat battling Tranmere Rovers

Luton Town are top of League Two after beating Tranmere Rovers 1-0 at Kenilworth Road.

Luton Town have moved to the top of League Two after a hard-fought victory over struggling Tranmere Rovers at Kenilworth Road.

Ricky Miller came off the bench to give the Hatters a 70th-minute lead and they were able to hold on to go two points clear of Wycombe Wanderers.

Shrewsbury Town also leapfrogged Wanderers after second-half strikes from Bobby Grant and James Collins helped see off Mansfield Town, who had Jamie McGuire sent off after 31 minutes.

However, Bury suffered a setback in their quest for an automatic promotion place after Kevin Ellison's 70th-minute goal saw Morecambe end a three-game losing streak with a win at the Globe Arena.

Stevenage move into the top half of the table after comfortably beating Cheltenham Town, with Chris Beardsley's first-half brace putting the Hertfordshire club on their way to a 5-1 win at the Lamex Stadium.

Hartlepool United's hopes of moving off the bottom of League Two were dashed when David Worrall scored in the 65th minute to give Southend United victory at Roots Hall. The Essex club remain in the playoff positions.

York City remain just outside the relegation zone after suffering a 1-0 home defeat against Oxford United, with James Roberts getting the decisive goal.

City are level on points with Dagenham & Redbridge, who narrowly lost away to AFC Wimbledon thanks to an early Barry Fuller strike at the Cherry Red Records Stadium, which saw the Dons register a first win in seven games.

However, Carlisle United moved further away from danger after Derek Asamoah gave the Cumbrians a 1-0 victory over Accrington Stanley.
