Euro 2012 Preview: Netherlands

With the European Championship of 1988 as their only trophy, Sports Mole assesses the Netherlands' chances of adding more silverware at Euro 2012.

It is incredible to think that the Netherlands' only trophy at international level was the European Championship of 1988.

Since then the Dutch have come very close to adding a second title to their criminally-sparse cabinet, but they have always come up painfully short.

With a wealth of attacking options and some notorious steel in the midfield, could this be their year to triumph?

Group: B

Bert van Marwijk: The 60-year-old former international nearly wrote himself into Dutch folklore when he guided the team to the 2010 World Cup final. Although it wasn't to be in South Africa, he has a great chance to make amends this time around.

Players to watch:

Nigel de Jong: After an infamous appearance in the World Cup final, the Manchester City hardman will provide a fear factor in the centre of the park.

Robin van Persie: With an incredible season in the Premier League for Arsenal under his belt, Van Persie is sure to be amongst the goals in Poland and Ukraine.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar: Having enjoyed a successful campaign with Schalke, the wily 28-year-old will pose a threat to defences across the tournament.

Previous best: Winners 1988
