Shola Ameobi hopes that Newcastle can make their mark on Europe.

Shola Ameobi has said that Newcastle United will be looking for success when they continue their Europa League campaign next year.

The Magpies progressed from their group despite losing 2-0 at Bordeaux on Thursday with an inexperienced team.

The 31-year-old told The Sun: "We are through and we are delighted. We want to stamp our mark on Europe.

"Hopefully we can look forward to February with a fully-fit squad and really attack with all guns blazing. We know how good those Europe nights are.

"There are no excuses [for Thursday's defeat], we were not up to speed. It was very disappointing. Our inexperience perhaps told in the end with the boys chucked in at the deep end."

The draw for the rounds of 32 and 16 takes place later this month.
