Shola Ameobi: 'Newcastle United still fighting for pride'

Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi says that the team will be "fighting for pride" when they face Liverpool this weekend.

Shola Ameobi has said that Newcastle United will still be "fighting for pride" in their final match of the Premier League season.

The Magpies, who sit ninth in the table, face Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, with the hosts still in contention for the league title.

The striker told the club's website: "A lot of years you get these final games that mean nothing in context to where you are in the league, but to go to Anfield on Sunday with something still riding on it.

"Liverpool have been unbelievable this season, and so to go there and get a result would really mean something to us as players.

"They are fighting for the title, we are fighting for pride, and we want to show the fans that we are still fighting and that we can mix it with the best teams."

Newcastle ended a run of five defeats in a row when they beat Cardiff City last weekend.
