Newcastle United defender Davide Santon has claimed that he wants to score more goals for the club following his strike in Sunday's defeat against Wigan Athletic.
The 22-year-old Italian international netted for the first time in his professional career at the weekend as the Magpies were beaten 2-1 at the DW Stadium in the Premier League.
"Of course I like going more forward than defending but if I play left-back or right-back I know my job is first to defend and after that, to go forward," Santon told the club's official website.
"I've been trying for a long time to score and the goalkeeper always makes an amazing save but finally I scored and I'm happy. I hope it's the first of a lot of goals in my career."
Sunday's defeat has left Newcastle in 13th place in the Premier League table.
