The Football Association have charged both John Carver and Graham Barrow with misconduct.
Newcastle United coach Carver and his Wigan Athletic counterpart Barrow confronted each other on the touchline as the half-time whistle was blown during their clubs' encounter at the DW Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The altercation had been sparked by a challenge from Wigan's Callum McManaman on Newcastle defender Massadio Haidara - a tackle that has not been punished by the FA despite the fact that referee Mark Halsey failed to see it.
Having had a heated exchange on the side of the pitch, Carver and Barrow are believed to have clashed again once they went down the tunnel.
Both men have until 4pm on Friday to respond to their charges.
