Yohan Cabaye "sad" for Alan Pardew

Former Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye feels "sad" that fans want manager Alan Pardew sacked, insisting that he is a "good manager".

Yohan Cabaye has said that he is "sad" for Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew as the club's fans continue to call for him to be sacked.

The Magpies are 19th in the Premier League after failing to pick up a win from their first six matches of the season, resulting in supporters holding up posters asking for the boss to be removed from his post.

The former Newcastle midfielder, who joined Paris Saint-Germain earlier this year, told The Telegraph: "The manager is in trouble now, so I'm sad for him. Even when I was there, the manager showed us the way to play. It is the players who have to work harder.

"If he texts me and wants to meet me in Paris, then it would be with pleasure. He gave me everything when I arrived three years ago, so for me he is a good manager and he will stay the same in my mind.

"I like him, because he gave me confidence. He was really close to the players, talking to them a lot and in a positive way. He helped us in our minds to play well. He put trust in all of us."

Cabaye scored 17 goals in 79 appearances for Newcastle.
