Newcastle United could reportedly offload the defensive duo of Javier Manquillo and Jamaal Lascelles during the summer transfer window.

Newcastle United could reportedly allow Javier Manquillo and Jamaal Lascelles to leave this summer.

After qualifying for the Champions League, the Magpies are looking to build a squad that can compete in Europe's biggest club competition.

They are set to complete the statement signing of Italy international Sandro Tonali from AC Milan for a €70m (£60.2m) fee.

While they continue to be linked with a number of names, Newcastle are also expected to ship out players that are deemed surplus to requirements.

According to the ChronicleLive, Manquillo and Lascelles are among those that could leave St James' Park this summer.

Manquillo joined the Magpies from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2017, and he has gone on to make 110 appearances at the club.

However, the Spaniard has struggled for playing time since the arrival of England international Kieran Trippier in January 2022.

Manquillo was limited to just six competitive appearances last season, failing to start a single Premier League game.

In addition to Trippier, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe can also call upon Emil Krafth and Harrison Ashby in the right-back position.

With Newcastle in talks over a transfer for Southampton's Toni Livramento, Manquillo would fall further down the pecking order.

The 29-year-old has just 12 months left on his deal, and Newcastle will not block a departure, amid interest from clubs in Spain.

Lascelles has also entered the final year of his contract, and there is uncertainty surrounding his future at St James' Park.

The club captain was restricted to just 11 competitive appearances last season, as Howe preferred to utilise the central defensive pairing of Fabian Schar and Sven Botman.

Lascelles, who is keen to secure regular playing time, is attracting interest from newly-promoted Luton Town and Europa Conference League winners West Ham United.

The centre-back has spent eight years with the Magpies, featuring in 225 games across all competitions.
