Newport County part company with Terry Butcher

Former England international Terry Butcher loses his job as manager of League Two side Newport County.

Newport County have confirmed the departure of manager Terry Butcher with immediate effect.

The former England international was handed the post in April 2015 following the departure of Jimmy Dack.

However, one victory from 10 outings this term has seen County drop to the bottom of the League Two table and following the 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Crawley Town on Tuesday night, the board have decided to intervene.

"Newport County AFC would like to thank Terry and his staff for their efforts during their time at the club and wish them every success for the future," read a statement on the club's official website.

"The club hopes to make an announcement on a successor prior to Saturday's fixture against Exeter City."

It has also been confirmed that assistant manager Russell Osman and chief scout Steve Marsella have left the club along with Butcher.
