Steven Whittaker out of start of Norwich City's campaign

Norwich City manager Chris Hughton says that new signing Steven Whittaker is likely to be unavailable for the first few weeks of the season with an ankle injury.

New Norwich City defender Steven Whittaker is expected to be sidelined for the first few games of the Canaries' Premier League campaign with an ankle injury.

Norwich boss Chris Hughton has confirmed that the 28-year-old, who moved to Carrow Road from stricken Rangers last month, picked up the problem during the club's pre-season schedule.

"It's certainly going to keep him out for a good few weeks," Hughton told BBC Radio Norfolk.

"The good news is that whenever anybody goes over on an ankle, you're always dreading the fact that it's something that might be a really long-term injury, but it's not to that degree which we're delighted at."

Norwich begin their league campaign with an away fixture to Fulham.
