Dean Ashton: 'Norwich City need to sign a striker'

Dean Ashton believes that Norwich City must sign a proven Premier League striker to boost their chances of survival.

Dean Ashton has urged Norwich City manager Alex Neil to bolster his goalscoring options before the end of the summer transfer window.

The newly-promoted Canaries can call upon the likes of Cameron Jerome and Gary Hooper up front, but Ashton has insisted that a striker with experience of the top flight is required if the club are to stand a realistic chance of securing their Premier League status next term.

"I do think they need a player, ideally a proven one, who can score goals and knows what the Premier League is about," the ex-Norwich striker told the Eastern Daily Press.

"Saying that, there's already plenty of quality there in players like Gary Hooper and Cameron Jerome who have scored goals in the Premier League. Maybe they haven't scored enough in terms of what Norwich will need [to stay up], so I'd like to see another striker come in."

Norwich have recently been linked with Liverpool frontman Rickie Lambert.
